What is Cortagen?
Cortagen is a synthetic tetrapeptide. Translation: four amino acids hooked together on purpose.
The sequence is alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, proline. Catalogs write Ala-Glu-Asp-Pro or AEDP. Same molecule idea.
It was designed as a defined-sequence cousin of Cortexin, a peptide complex isolated from animal brain cortex. That matters. Cortexin is a mixed extract. Cortagen is one short chain built from amino-acid analysis of that neighborhood. Shared lore. Not identical objects.
How sure should you be of even that much? The sequence is not in dispute. AEDP is a real tetrapeptide with a PubMed trail. The jump from “named sequence with papers” to “this vial will unfog your brain” is where captions go to work. This page refuses that jump.
Why this matters: you are looking at a short research peptide aimed at cortex and nerve-repair biology — not a certified neurology drug in a crimp cap.

Why this matters: if a caption skips AEDP, chromatin, and “cell/animal,” it is selling vibes.

In a classic rat sciatic-nerve model, intramuscular Cortagen at 10 micrograms per kilogram for ten days after transection and suturing increased regenerating-fiber growth rate by 27% and conduction velocity by 40% versus controls in that study.
Read that again. The stop-you line is that a four-residue peptide moved both growth and electrical conduction hard in a peripheral-nerve repair model. In rats.
That is also the trap. A sutured sciatic nerve in a rodent lab is not your concussion. A Russian physiology paper is not a U.S. package insert.
Why this matters: the exciting claim is nerve-repair acceleration in an animal model — and the confidence level is still preclinical plus originating-group literature, not a Western multi-center RCT.
Separate papers from the same research neighborhood talk about gene-expression shifts in mouse heart after Cortagen, chromatin changes in aging lymphocytes, IL-2 message in immune cells, and chronic cerebral ischemia models with Cortexin or Cortagen. Interesting as program history. Weak as modern trial evidence for “brain optimization.” Hold that distinction or the caption will hold your wallet.
So what for you: the number that matters is how far the evidence sits from a human drug label. Right now that gap is wide.
